Lillith Delacroix
Lillith twirled, her satin skirts flowing. The music came to an end and she smiled coyly at the handsome man whom everyone was talking about. "Won't you tell me your name, sir?"
Fluttering her eyelashes she gazed up at him in wonder. There was something about this man's eyes that suddenly seemed to hook her and when he took her hand to lead her outside without anyone else the wiser, she didn't protest.
Outside it was warm with a breeze flowing through Lady Francis' garden. Other couples wondered the terrace, caught up in summer love. But Lillith didn't notice any of this as the stranger led her further into the darkness. When they reached a bench far from the doors leading into the ballroom, the stranger finally broke her gaze.
"Sir, I do not believe we should be out here..." She turned to go but the man's grip tightened. "Sir! You are hurting me!" He finally spoke and his voice was no longer the honeyed warmth it was when he asked her to dance earlier. Now it was dark and evil.
"Oh, do be quiet, Cecile." His face suddenly seemed harsh and Lillith became afraid. When he pulled her down on the bench, seating himself beside her she struggled to get loose. Her grasped her with both hands and pulled her close. "Be still." He commanded her and, for some unknown reason, Lillith's body obeyed. Her mind was overly aware of every move he made, however. When he tucked her hair behind her ear and placed a cold kiss on her lips, Lillith could do nothing about it. When he bent over her neck, her mind raced. When his teeth sank into her delicate skin and her blood began to flow, she finally realised that she was going to die. With that last thought, she lost conciousness.

Lillith jerked awake, tangled in her red silk sheets. Through the dark curtains on her window, Lillith could tell it was dusk. She sighed and peeled the sweat soaked sheets from her body. Beside her lay the handsome man whom she had fed on that morning. His body was now stiff. She wrapped a silk robe around her body and pushed the button on the intercom.
"Yes, Lillith?" The grainy voice from the control room asked her.
"Ken, could you send up someone to take care of this body?" She knew her voice would sound grainy as well. When Ken confirmed her request she stepped into the bathroom and turned on the water of the marble shower. Stepping out of her robe, she stepped into the hot water. As the water ran over her face, Lillith let herself remember the night 216 years ago that changed her life.
